Ditch the newspaper and typewriter - Devices are influencing employees as well as workplaces.

Hiring new, young talent, fresh out of college and eager to learn is challenging some established practices of management as well as changing corporate culture.  The shift to a more youthful employment force from Generation X to Generation Y (a.k.a. Millennial) means that companies are having to adapt to different habits and attitudes towards work. In short, the workforce is changing.

New Leaders, New Tech
New college graduates are entering the workforce, never having known a world without computers, cell phones, email, or instant messaging. They have always been brought up in a fast-paced, instant world that is constantly moving and changing.

As a result, they are looking for innovating ways to complete tasks that may go against the grain of the older workforce. Fear not, Baby Boomers, these are actually improving work efficiency, rather than hindering it.

Mobile Movement
Technology is ever-growing. Over 85 percent of adults of all ages own a cell phone, with Millennials being the most likely group to own devices such as smartphones, laptops, and tablets. In addition, they’re the most likely generation to take advantage of functions available to them, such as apps, voice-assist, and more! Not only is this advancing completion of tasks (essentially by having a robot’s help), but it’s allowing the business to move forward, quicker.

Millennials are one generation that prefers using smartphones and tablets over sitting at a desk with a computer or laptop - and for good reason! While laptops are portable, they aren’t as associable as a handy (pun intended) smartphone. By a touch of a button, a report can be sent, an email responded to, and an address found.  And all this from the “field” where the action is.

In turn, businesses should embrace rather than fear mobile – they need to adapt their businesses to the Millennial workforce.  There are substantial benefits to be had from a Millennial workforce that force that sees the workplace as empowering and enabling.  The future of the Millennial Workplace is in apps!
